Your mock test progress
Take all four (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking) in order for a realistic test day, about 2 hours 45 minutes, or practise one skill at a time. We email you the result of each part, and your progress is saved in this browser.
How the full mock test works
The four skills are tested in the same order as on test day. On the real test, Listening, Reading and Writing are taken in one sitting with no breaks, and Speaking is a separate appointment.
- Listening (about 30 minutes): four recordings, 40 questions, British English voices.
- Reading (60 minutes): three Academic passages, 40 questions.
- Writing (60 minutes): Task 1 chart report and Task 2 essay.
- Speaking (11–14 minutes): an AI-generated examiner voice asks Part 1, 2 and 3 questions.
You can take all four in one go, like a real test day, or one at a time: your progress is saved in this browser. We email you the result of each part, and your overall score when all four are marked.
How your overall score is worked out
Each skill gets a score from 0 to 9. Your overall score is the average of the four, rounded to the nearest half point: an average of 6.25 becomes 6.5, 6.75 becomes 7.0 and 6.1 becomes 6.0.
Listening and Reading are marked automatically from your answers. Writing and Speaking scores come from our AI marker (for learners aged 18 and over). All the scores are estimated practice scores, not official IELTS results, but they give you a useful idea of where you are and which skill needs the most work. The AI scores have not been checked against official examiners’ marks, so treat them as a guide.
Frequently asked questions
Is this IELTS mock test really free?
Yes. All four skills, the marking and the AI scores are free. You give your first name and email address, and we email you each result and your overall score.
Is it the same as the real IELTS test?
It follows the real format and timing for all four skills, and was written by our teachers. It is not an official IELTS test, and the scores are estimates.
Academic or General Training?
This mock test is Academic. Listening and Speaking are the same for both; the Reading and Writing parts here are the Academic versions.
Do I have to do all four parts at once?
No. You can take them one at a time and come back later; your progress is saved in this browser. Use the same email address for all four parts so we can work out your overall score.
