Privacy — for children & young people

What information we keep about you, why we keep it, and your rights — in plain language.

Last updated: 31 May 2026  ·  For: students under 18 and their parents/carers  ·  Questions: info@kensingtonenglish.co.uk

We've written this in plain language so you — the student — and your parent or carer can read it together. If anything isn't clear, ask a parent to email us and we'll explain.

Who we are

We're Kensington English. We teach English online. Our website is kensingtonenglish.co.uk. For data protection, Kensington English Limited is the "data controller" — that means we're responsible for looking after your information.

What we collect

From your parent, when you join: your name, age, country and time zone; your parent's name and contact details; an emergency contact; and anything about your health or learning needs your parent chooses to tell us.

During lessons: attendance, lesson recordings (if your parent agreed), your teacher's notes on your progress, and homework or test results.

What we do not do: we don't ask you for your home address or ID, we don't track you around the internet, and we never use your information to train AI. The student portal you log into has no advertising or tracking in it.

Why we use it

Who can see it

Only the people who need to: your teacher, our office team, our Designated Safeguarding Lead (Gokhan Beyaz), and trusted services we use to run lessons and email (such as Zoom and our database), who are bound by contracts to protect your data. We only share with authorities (like the police or social services) if the law requires it or if you might be in danger. We never sell your information or share it with advertisers.

Where it's kept and for how long

Your information is stored securely on services in the UK and Europe. We keep it only as long as needed — enrolment and progress records for up to 6 years, lesson recordings for a short time (around 90 days) and then deleted, and safeguarding records for longer where the law requires. After that, it's securely deleted.

Your rights

You or your parent can ask to see the information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, ask us to stop using it for certain things, or withdraw a consent your parent gave. You can also complain to the UK regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), at ico.org.uk. To use any of these, ask your parent to email info@kensingtonenglish.co.uk — we reply within one month.

Keeping you safe online

Lessons run on Zoom with safety settings switched on (waiting rooms, no private messaging between students, and the teacher in control). If anything in a lesson ever makes you uncomfortable — something a teacher says, another student says, or something you see — tell a parent, or email info@kensingtonenglish.co.uk. If you're in danger, tell a trusted adult and call 999. You can also call Childline free, any time, on 0800 1111.
